Terminology

The technical terms used in this data protection declaration are those that are legally defined in Art. 4 of the GDPR.

The terms "user" and "website visitor" are used interchangeably in our privacy policy.

General Information on Data Processing

Purposes of Processing

We process your data so that you can access the information on our website and get in touch with us. We operate these pages for the purpose of public relations in the performance of our tasks in the public interest.

Automated Data Processing (Log Files, etc.)

Each time the website is accessed, access data is stored in server log files for a period of 7 days for security reasons. These logs include the IP address, provider, browser type, operating system, and other usage data. This data is not combined with other sources.

Newsletter

To subscribe to our newsletter, only an email address is required. Any additional data is voluntary and used only for personalization. Newsletters are sent only after double opt-in confirmation.

Consent is documented, including IP address and timestamps. You may unsubscribe anytime via diic-community@reutlingen-university.de.

General Contact

If you contact us, we will process the data necessary to respond. Required fields are limited to your message and email address. Additional information is optional.

Data Deletion and Storage Period

We store personal data only as long as necessary or as required by law. Once the purpose or retention period ends, the data is deleted. Data processed on the basis of consent will be deleted immediately upon revocation.

External links may lead to third-party websites with separate privacy policies. These are clearly marked and only activated when clicked. Clicking may result in data transfers (e.g. IP address) and, in some cases, data transfers outside the EEA.

Rights of the Data Subject

Right to Lodge a Complaint

You have the right to file a complaint with a data protection authority if you believe your data has been unlawfully processed.

Right to Data Portability

You may request your data in a structured, machine-readable format and ask that we transmit it to another controller, where technically feasible.

Right to Access, Rectification and Erasure

You may request information about your stored personal data and ask for it to be corrected or deleted.

Right to Restriction of Processing

You may request restriction if: the accuracy of your data is contested, processing is unlawful, we no longer need the data but you need it for legal claims, or you object to processing and a balancing of interests is pending.

Restricted data may only be processed with your consent or for specific legal reasons.

Use of Local Storage Items, Session Storage Items, and Cookies

We use local storage, session storage, and cookies to store settings like dark mode and to improve user experience. Session storage is temporary; local storage persists until manually deleted. Cookies may be session-based or permanent.

Some storage items may come from third parties, e.g., payment providers or embedded content. If essential, storage is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Otherwise, it requires consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
