Focus Areas

The specialist area “Regulatory Affairs, MMI & AI” deals with legal, ethical and technical aspects of digital networking in the OR environment, particularly with regard to artificial intelligence (AI) and human-machine interaction (MMI). In the area of MMI, the cooperation between human and machine in the operating theatre environment is specifically investigated and optimized through the use of suitable technologies. In the future, AI-based systems will also play an important role in the OR environment in order to support surgical procedures and make them more efficient. In the medical environment, regulatory requirements must always be taken into account, which pose a number of challenges, particularly in the area of digital networking. These challenges are being tackled in a targeted manner in the specialist area, whereby interlinking with other specialist areas is of fundamental importance.

The specialist area “Clinical Translation” is concerned with the transfer of innovative, scientific research results into clinical practice. The aim is to quickly and safely transfer new approaches from the laboratory setting to clinical routine by focusing on the clinical benefits when developing innovative solutions. Testing in a realistic environment promotes the clinical translation of support systems that improve patient care and drive medical progress. Interlinking with other specialist areas is of fundamental importance here.
